About Cooori, the online language learning system - "How Cooori works"

Cooori is based on the ambition to make language learning faster and more efficient. Traditional teaching methods are a product of a much earlier time. We believe that it is time to bring language learning into the 21st century and make better use of all the incredibly advanced technology and knowledge that is now available.

The Cooori system was developed because of a practical need. Our founder, Dr. Arnar Jensson, was working hard to learn Japanese when he moved to Tokyo for his studies. Dr. Jensson realized that there was a dire need for improvement. And since he was pursuing a doctoral degree in computer engineering - he had all the tools to make it happen. He recognized that old-fashioned methods of rote learning could be significantly improved. By putting together different elements and science from the cognitive science, neurology and advanced artificial intelligence programming - the foundation was set. For the past three years Cooori has employed a group of professional language experts to develop a unique database of words and phrases that serve as the basis of the system.

How does the system work?

When a person starts using the Cooori system to learn a new language our artificial intelligence engines start building a model of that person's studies and how they are progressing. The system will at any time have a complete picture of what the students have already learned, and how well each piece of knowledge should be embedded in their brain. The system will then feed the user with the appropriate reminders and example sentences to help move each piece of information from short-term memory and into long-term memory. This guided build-up of knowledge cannot be replicated by any old fashioned method; it is totally unique to the Cooori system.

Our system has already replaced older methods employed at the University of Iceland and student grades have never been higher. Early results indicate a fantastic improvement in retention and Japanese vocabulary build-up. Also - the students and teachers love using Cooori!
